H. Resit Akçakaya is a Professor in the Department of Ecology and Evolution of Stony Brook University in New York, USA. He is a conservation biologist with expertise in population and metapopulation dynamics, modelling, and extinction risk assessment. His current research focuses on assessing the vulnerability of species to extinction due to climate change, and quantifying conservation success for an IUCN Green List of Species. At IUCN, Dr. Akçakaya is the Chair of the Red List Standards and Petitions Subcommittee, which develops the Red List Guidelines for threatened species assessments, and evaluates petitions against the red-listing of these species. He has over 100 publications, including 4 books, and is one of the principal architects of the RAMAS library of software, widely used for population viability analysis and for incorporation uncertainty into IUCN criteria.
